Over its historical time, Myrtle Beach has and is known for many things: "The Seaside Golf Capital of the World," "The Campground Capital of the World," and "The Miniature Golf Capital of the World, plus other niche titles to capture the essence of the area.

The Waccamaaw and Winyah Indians first inhabited the area. They called the land, "Chicora." The waters off the coast contain a history of their own. During the 18th century, pirates were lured to the Atlantic to have their ways in this essential paradise. Folklore began here where it is reported that the legendary "Blackbeard" seized the area with terror on these Carolina shores before his violent death in 1718.
